AIM-Android

Ideal for Industrial Tablet

Android was born as a mobile-first operating system and built for mobile-first devices. With increasing popularity, Android has gained ground in the mobile market and enabled countless handheld devices since its debut and now accounts for more than three-fourth of the overall industrial tablet market share.

Advantages of AIM-Android

Less Power Consumption

Applications Variety

Accessibility to Google Play store enables users to download a variety of applications as and when required. Android is an open operating system, facilitating developers to create new applications for specific industrial needs.

Challenges of Android System

However, Android’s tablet is not without its shortcomings, and its main concept of consumer model design is far from enough for use in industrial enterprises. For example, the design of sleep mode is not conducive to monitors such as dashboard; the behavior of plug-and-charge can also affect the life of the battery. In summary, we have seen the major challenges of Android as follows based on our customer’s journey

In summary, we have seen the major challenges of Android as follows based on our customer’s journey

  • Highly Customized
  • Limited Driver Support from Industrial Peripherals
  • Frequent Updates Lead to System Integrators’ Nightmare
  • Lack of Central Monitoring Functionality

AIM-Android is Highly Customized

AIM-Android is an improved version of Android with an industry-oriented design, providing the most commonly used functions in the enterprise world, defaulting to various customized attributes, and designing a comprehensive new platform for enterprise customers in different fields to meet various customization needs. AIMobile proposes a standard architecture, a better choice for industrial platforms, with shorter development time, less development costs, and more streamlined customization process.

AIMobile has defined an application interface that will become the standard on all AIM-Android platforms for both x86 and ARM architectures. The interface has extended APIs for industrial applications locally on device side, and remote management and monitoring API remotely in the cloud. Furthermore, there are also more than a hundred pre-designed custom projects implemented in AIM-Android, including UI and peripheral button behavior. This series of standardization is to solve the challenges of using Android for an industrial application.

AIMobile pre-designs UI changes to hide all notifications. Field applications that do not need to see notifications of system changes and do not need to hear system alerts can be quickly satisfied. For example, in restaurants, the self-ordering system on each guest table, the warning sound and reminder in the background can be completely blocked. In the same system, such as the patient information system delivered to the hospital ward, background error messages (e.g. network connection failure) can be displayed on the screen, but all kinds of audible warnings/prompts must be turned off in order not to disturb the patient's rest. The above user scenarios are completely fulfilled by one AIM-Android, and there is no need to redevelop another one of Android for hospital applications to meet the needs of hospitals. A unified interface is built on AIM-Android, which can close all prompt windows or prompt/alert sounds separately. In the restaurant application, we only need to close all prompt windows with one click and turn off the warning sound; In the case of the hospital, we only need to open the system prompt window and close the warning tone to meet the needs of the hospital. Such a switch, which is completely unaffected by the system update image, can continue to inherit in the new versions of the system. If the aforementioned restaurant customer suddenly proposes that the power button be changed to another function, hoping that pressing the power button would call the service staff instead of shutting down; The volume keys are changed to previous, next. The above requirements can also be completed at the fingertips, without the need to develop a new version of the system.

It is this design that allows AIM-Android to save many developers development time, as long as this standard interface remains unchanged, in the face of Google's updated Android version, we only need to port the original code to the new version of Android, which becomes the new version of AIM-Android, once the new AIM-Android is completed, when integrated into a customer's application environment, the parameters do not need to be reset at all, and the original customization is still in effect, reducing the adjustment time of the system integrator and eliminating the time for the client to re-familiarize.

AIMobile has implemented more than a hundred customized applications on AIM-Android, including multiple physical button changes, navigation bar virtual button remake, system prompt customization, security remote control (remote lock, remote shutdown, remote update), customer-provided software installation package, default parameter injection, software blacklist and whitelist setting, browser home page customization, interface detection, automatic registration of connection, etc. The development of AIM-Android aims to solve the pain points of system developers, lower the development process bar, and reduce repetitive behavior.

A Cloud-Ready SaaS

AIM-Android system has been continuously updated and optimized in the past five years, and now the cloud version has been built upon the Microsoft Azure public cloud, further improving AIM-Android’s globalization through Azure's excellent performance and security. AIMobile also offers an intranet version of AIM-Android for businesses that don't have access to the Internet, which still achieves all of the above features.
