Since ChatGPT abruptly became the center of attention in the end of last year, more focus from all over the world was put on the development and application of AI, and the year 2023 had also been highlighted as the “epoch year of generative AI”. Industries kept searching for AI applications for urban life for a better and safer living environment. AIMobile Co., Ltd. (“AIMOBILE”), co-founded by Inventec Corporation and Advantech Co., Ltd, is renowned for its low latency, high precision AI edge computing and analysis capabilities. With such capabilities, high volumes of images can be processed. In 2019, Canon worked with AIMOBILE to create the Power AI and Edge Computing Analysis System (“PAECIA System”), and earned the right of agency for it, aiming for the all-around promotion of the AI smartification era and helping government and private units to create a brand new smart transportation city.

This year, Canon and AIMOBILE were invited by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) to be the speakers in the “2023 Smart City Workshop” to show how smart technology can bring meaningful improvements to the living standards of urban populations under the five topics of “5G Applications”, “Smart Healthcare”, “Smart Transportation”, “Smart Homes”, and “Smart Factories”. Participants from the public sector of 18 countries worldwide, including Israel, gave feedback of their wonderful impression on the life-assisting, practical applications. In particular, the solutions were expected to be applied to smart transportation for the creation of the urban lifestyle demanded by their citizens.

“The PAECIA System, co-developed by Canon and AIMOBILE, has been successfully adopted in multiple Taiwanese cities, including Taipei, New Taipei City, Taichung, and Kaohsiung”, Smart Chen, Director of Business Image Solution Center, Canon said. “It has been utilized to accomplish the management of environmental AI monitoring (e.g., water level, air, and noise), urban parking space integration, road traffic control, and pedestrian safety alerts. Moreover, Canon proactively promotes smart access control, network audio solutions, and video surveillance as a service to bring modern urban management to the next level.”

“We at the New Business Development Center of Inventec focused on integrating products from different branches within the group”, JY Chung, Vice President of the New Business Development Center, Inventec also said. “We are committed to the innovative applications of smart industries. The Edge AI solution is a product we specifically designed to improve edge computing. It can both collect and immediately analyze data to improve the issue of delays in image analysis and data transfer. Incorporated with the in-house developed 5G transmission technology, it can play an essential role in bandwidth growth, in delay reduction, and in the realms of security monitoring and autonomous driving in smart transportation.”

On top of smart transportation, the workshop introduced other 5G AIoT applications in smart cities to participants from various countries. The applications include “smart manufacturing” applications with the semiconductor CMS 5G+ solution, “smart healthcare” with effective health data management and healthcare tracking and assistance, and healthy, comfortable, “smart homes” with home audio/video streaming and clean air via fixed wireless access (FWA).

As the Taiwanese government has relentlessly promoted smart city policies and proactively worked with industries, smart cities are no longer expectations and imaginations, but progressing in full swing. In light of this, Canon will expand our footprint in smart transportation applications and proactively work with AIMOBILE to branch into the realms of public safety, urban mobility, and environmental monitoring, further improving the quality of life for Taiwanese people.
